Alan Gulledge
Endurance Coach | Strength Coach | Personal Trainer
Alan was a stand-out track and field athlete at Brigham Young University. During this time he mastered running technique along with strength training, including Olympic lifts and functional movement. He spend the summers of his collegiate career as a track and strength coach for the university, working with high school and collegiate athletes to improve performance through correct running and strength technique. After a successful track career culminating in an Conference Championship, an NCAA Division 1 top-10 finish and a top-50 world ranking, he hung up the track spikes and found his way to the sport of triathlon.
Since 2001, he has competed in over 200 triathlons and running races, from 5k road races to multiple Ironman triathlons. During that process, Alan educated and developed himself as an athlete by reading books, scouring websites, attending clinics, and working with coaches to constantly improve. In addition, he continually honed his skills and progressed in the gym. He learned about nutrition, and the body's need for various nutrients, and when to consume them in both real-world and racing situations. He ultimately went through the process of becoming a NASM Certified Personal Trainer, Corrective Exercise Specialist, and Sports Nutrition Specialist. All the while, friends and family members continually asked him for advice on nutrition, developing exercise programs, and some even asked him to compete alongside them in triathlons and other events. He found he really enjoyed helping others achieve their goals, as much as he enjoyed succeeding himself. That was when he first considered making a living as a trainer and coach. His capstone project to complete his MBA involved creating a business plan for a personal training and coaching business. In 2011, Alan left a successful sales career to become a full-time personal trainer, and endurance coach. Through USA Triathlon and USA Track and Field, he obtained his Level 1 coaching certifications along with continuing education around performance nutrition. He has since worked with hundreds of clients to set, achieve, and surpass their goals, both in the gym and on the course. He started working as a full-time personal trainer at a top health and fitness franchise in Alexandria, VA, and ultimately assumed the role of fitness manager, overseeing the fitness department and staff of 25 personal trainers. In November of 2014, he stepped down from management to focus more individually on personal training and triathlete clients, and later officially formed TriFit Evolution in 2015. Alan practices what he preaches, and has qualified for the Ironman World Championships, the Ironman 70.3 World Championships, the Boston Marathon, and the USAT Nationals multiple times. He works with triathletes, runners, and personal training clients in Northern Virginia as well as throughout the US and Europe. He and his wife Laura live in Leesburg, Virginia with their boys Evan and Christian, and dog Bella. |
