The annual TFE Triathlon Training camp will take place May 31-June 2, 2024 in beautiful St. Michaels MD. This 3 day, two night event will be an incredible opportunity to swim, bike, and run in some of the most ideal training conditions on the East Coast. St. Michaels is home to some of the best cycling in the DMV, has calm waters for open water swimming, and quiet country lanes idyllic for running-it’s a perfect triathlete’s training ground. (I have personally trained here for almost every Ironman race I’ve ever done, including Kona, Ironman Maryland, and Ironman Florida.) Last year's training camp was a huge success, with athletes using this as a tune up for the Eagleman 70.3 event and other flat, fast races during the early part of the season.
PARTICIPANTS
This camp will focus on triathlon fundamentals- thus ALL abilities are encouraged to participate! From those just looking to complete a race, to those looking to podium, this weekend will benefit everyone. This camp is perfect for beginners, as the roads are flat, with a wide shoulder, and the swimming will be in water approximately 4’ deep, with runs on pavement, trails, and gravel roads. In addition, veteran triathletes will also benefit greatly from specific workouts, technical instruction, nutritional guidance and the collective wisdom of very experienced coaches. It’s a PERFECT opportunity for those planning to race Eagleman, Ironman Maryland, or any other flat-course event such as Ironman Florida or Patriot's half.
PURPOSE
Our training camp will focus on triathlon fundamentals. From transitions to nutrition; running tips to open water swimming technique, and race specificity to easy base training- we will cover it all. This weekend will be an incredible opportunity to build fitness, learn others, and focus on the fundamentals of triathlon in a beautiful, one of a kind location. The TFE camp gives athletes almost 3 full days to solely focus on uninterrupted training, providing a perfect ‘bump’ in fitness going into the race season. It's a chance to practice race-day pacing efforts and nutrition in a group environment, making it similar to a race setting. The camp gives athletes a chance to connect with new, like-minded friends and form lasting friendships. This is a rare opportunity to spend time learning from experienced triathletes and coaches in a laid back, low pressure environment. Learning from the collective wisdom of participants is a great way for athletes of all abilities to hone their skills and gain confidence while training alongside experienced coaches and athletes alike.
This is also a rare chance for athletes to focus on themselves, and their own fitness goals. Most days we are pulled in so many directions, there is seldom time to focus for more than a few hours on our personal goals. This is an opportunity to do so for the entire weekend in a beautiful, relaxing environment. St. Michaels is the perfect place to enjoy quaint shops, renowned restaurants, exquisite museums and galleries, and all sorts of water sports, from fishing and swimming to kayaking and stand up paddle boarding. So when when athletes are not swimming, biking, or running, they will be able enjoy all this enchanting area has to offer.

ACCOMODATIONS
Our host hotel will be the Wades Point Inn Bed and Breakfast. This beautiful B&B is located on the serene banks of the tranquil Chesapeake bay. This is the perfect place not only to train, but also to relax and enjoy the time away from the hustle and bustle of the daily grind. We have options for both shared and private rooms at Wades Point. Athletes are also welcome to find other accommodations if they choose. While this will be a full weekend of tri-focused training, there will be time to enjoy the beauty and charm of St. Michaels. While at Wades Point, athletes can enjoy some of the many amenities this renown hotel has to offer, from complimentary breakfast and coffee to kayas and bicycles. It is the athlete's responsibility to book their own room through Wades Point. They are very accommodating and easy to work with, but they sell out early so book now! Of course, athletes are welcome to stay anywhere in the greater St. Michael's area, but we strongly encourage athletes to stay at the Inn!
SCHEDULE
While the schedule will vary due to weather and tides, we are planning on multiple training sessions per day. Although a final itinerary will be sent out a few weeks prior to the event there we are hoping to incorporate daily yoga and open water swims in the beautiful Chesapeake bay (safety kayakers provided) into the camp. We will be excited for some early morning runs along the idyllic lanes and pathways of charming St. Michaels and encompassing communities, as well as multiple bike rides on the pristine Tilghman Island road and surrounding countryside. During our instructional sessions, we're excited to all topics related to triathlon: strength training, bike handling skills, nutrition, race day nutrition, and examine both open water swimming and run technique. We'll also share what key sessions are critical for short course and long course triathlon success, then get to practice them out on the road and in the Bay.
